Tired of trying? It's not just you, really. Angry at what's going on in the world? It's not just you, really. Discouraged because you feel incapable of doing what you want, or think you are supposed, to be doing? It's not just you, really. Feeling like you've failed as a parent, as a wife, as a husband? It's not just you, really. Are self-esteem issues holding you back from exploring relationships because you think you're just not good enough? Guess what? Yep, it's not just you, really. If you're anything like me, when things aren't going the way I want, or the way I think they should, I'm prone to thinking that it's just me; that I'm the only one having issues. Like the lyric I heard in a song recently, "I feel like my job is watching everyone else enjoy life." Intellectually, I know that isn't true. I think you know that too, when it applies to you. I also know that there are people who look at me, and at my life, and think I've got it all together. If this were a game show and you said that about me you'd hear a loud, obnoxious buzzer! WRONG ANSWER! And that's true of all the other people in your circle of influence, too. Here's the thing, though, everyone's become so good at masking their issues that the only ones we can see clearly are our own. And we fear being judged if we let our less than perfect lives be revealed. If we can get past our pride and allow people to see us as we really are, warts and all, perhaps we could focus on helping each other, lightening each other's loads. Until that happens, just take comfort in knowing, it's not just you, really. That person at work who seems to catch all the breaks? They still have issues. That friend who seems to have it all together? Issues. The pretty girl with the great family and all those friends; issues. That person you worship along side who seems to be the perfect person of faith; issues. Being human means having issues. Why not deal with them rather than trying to just cover them up and act like they'll go away on their own? After all, it's not just you, really.
